Hmm... well, Brazil is a lot more japanophily than Costa Rica, so. Basically, the people that are into Japanese stuff are mostly in it for the anime, and if they're not in it for the anime, then they're honestly interested in just the culture and don't really spare much thought for the nuttier products of japanese pop culture. (These are a tiny minority).
I don't think I've met one person that is into japanese live-action anything-that-is-not-horror. But then, I kind of am not really IN costarican fandom.
But anyway, no one knows what the hell I'm talking about if I say "Kamen Rider". Older people remember Ultraman, but most people just go straight to Power Rangers.
