Tsukasa/Natsumi, mostly fluff, unless you look closely.
Spoilers for ep 27

Natsumi smiled at them as she got up to leave the table. Or rather, Yusuke thought, her smile flitted over him like a butterfly before settling on Tsukasa. She didn't stare or linger, but there was something. A pause, something in her eyes, the knowledge of something left unsaid, gone as soon as it came, just like that metaphorical butterfly, as she bade them goodnight and headed to her room.

Yusuke glanced at Tsukasa. He wasn't watching the doorway Natsumi had disappeared through. He'd looked away, and there was a look in his eyes, half tenderness and half concern.

He looked away before Tsukasa could realize he'd noticed. By now he knew Tsukasa fairly well, and he knew he would bristle at being caught off-guard.

After a minute or so, Tsukasa turned towards Yusuke, jerking his head in the general direction of Natsumi's room.

"She's doing okay, don't you think? If you didn't know, you wouldn't even think she'd gotten hurt at all, would you?"

He sounded like he always did, more than a little self-satisfied, as if the way things had worked out had been part of a plan all along. But Yusuke knew it was a front this time.

"But she did get hurt, Tsukasa," he pointed out, trying to soften his tone as he did.

"I know that," Tsukasa said, his voice snapping a little before settling back to normal. "But she's okay now, don't you think?"

"Yeah, she seems to be..." Yusuke hesitated, choosing his words carefully, then finally asking a simple question. "Are you going to tell her, Tsukasa?"

"No, I'm not. Why would I do that?"

There it was again. Tsukasa's usual tone. It infuriated Yusuke sometimes.

"Because it's important," he said, looking directly at Tsukasa.

"She knows she got hurt. She knows she woke up in the hospital, and that we were there. She knows she's okay. Why would we--"

"Because she died. Because she would want to know--"

His words were cut off as Tsukasa's hand slammed onto the table. When he spoke again, Tsukasa's voice was quiet, controlled and determined. "I am not going to tell Natsumi that she should be dead. And neither," he added, leaning close to make the point "...are you."

It was a challenge, Yusuke knew that. And he knew he was already backing down from it as he leaned back in his seat, because Natsumi was his friend, but she was something entirely different, something more to Tsukasa, and he had already acknowledged that on the hospital's roof a day earlier. He had already conceded that this was between Tsukasa and Natsumi.

But it didn't mean he had to be happy with Tsukasa's pig-headed decisions.

Tsukasa was standing in front of him, arms crossed across his chest, scowling like a six old that had been told that, no, you aren't supposed to pick the ball with your hands in football. It meant Yusuke had to thread carefully, because Tsukasa was already digging in his heels.

"I'm not going to tell her anything, Tsukasa."

"Good."

"But I think you should. I think she would want to know what happened, and I think she would want to hear it from you."

There was a pause, and Tsukasa looked away from him.

"Because it was my fault, you mean," he said finally, a bitter note in his voice and a pained expression crossing his features for a second before it disappeared. Gone as soon as it came, like the butterfly in Natsumi's smile.

"No, because of what you gave up to save her. She would want to know about that. About what you feel."

The words hung in the air between them. Tsukasa held his eyes for a moment, then burst out laughing.

"You're such a girl, Yusuke," Tsukasa finally managed to say, that insufferable, shit-eating grin on his face as he turned to leave through the same door Natsumi had used. Tsukasa and Yusuke shared a spare bedroom, across the hall from hers.

"Tsukasa--"

"Natsumi already knows everything she needs to know," Tsukasa said, waving a hand dismissively. Sometimes, Yusuke thought, it seemed like Tsukasa hadn't changed at all. Before he could think about it, Yusuke found himself jumping up and grabbing Tsukasa's shoulder, forcing him to turn and face him.

"That she woke up in a hospital bed after getting between you and Apollo Geist? You think she's satisfied with that?" he hissed.

Another pause, another unchecked emotion flitted across Tsukasa's features for a moment, and then Tsukasa resolutely pushed Yusuke's hand from his shoulder

"She already knows I would do anything to keep her safe. The rest doesn't matter."

[...]

When Yusuke finally followed to their room, Tsukasa wasn't there. Their door was half open, while the door to Natsumi's room was closed.

"She already knows I would do anything to keep her safe. The rest doesn't matter."

I don't know why but I squee at this. *_________*

Thank you for writing! I can so imagine Tsukasa's pout and Yuusuke's puppy eyes.

I clearly need a Natsumi icon. :D;
