The end of Blade made me cry.
Stupid Kenzaki.

I can't even say "why'd you have to do that?" because I understand why he did it. He did it for Hajime, except it wasn't even just for Hajime. And it wasn't even just to save humanity, either. He did it to preserve his own faith in an individual's ability to "fight fate". He realized Hajime couldn't fight off Joker anymore, but he STILL believed in him, and he refused to destroy that faith. So he did the only thing he could do to preserve it, to give Hajime the push he needed. To give him the gift of being able to live and love like a human being, because he had faith that was what Hajime wanted. I mean... sealing Hajime, that would have been understandable, and he would have done it knowing Hajime WANTED him to seal him (like at the end of the movie), but then he'd have destroyed his faith, and Kenzaki is just so kind and generous that he would rather forsake his own life rather than allow Hajime to admit defeat.
Seriously, Kamen Rider has never made me outright CRY before. I mean, the Hoppers made me kinda choke up a little, but not CRY like it was freaking Steel Magnolias or something.
Stupid Kenzaki.
Best Kamen Rider series ever. Even if I haven't seen so many of the others. ;______;

Date: 2009-07-08 02:00 pm (UTC)It's a lot more heart-wrenching to watch them in that order. I ended up watching Missing Ace after the series and I can't help the feeling I got cheated in that as I watched Missing Ace I felt it was only "okay" as a Blade movie, because I'd seen the much more heart breaking alternative first. So I took my revenge on D and you by making you watch in the right order and baaaaaaaaaaaaaw a lot more in the end. :D

Date: 2009-07-08 02:54 pm (UTC)I mean, I said Missing Ace broke my heart, and it's very sad, but yeah... it's what you're expecting, in the back of your mind, since you learn who Hajime is. I mean, like I've said, he's THAT sort of character. He's the one that spends the whole series fighting his nature and striving for redemption and you're always kind of expecting that Hajime's final redemption will be to sacrifice himself for the sake of the humans that he could never really join. The whole time you're thinking, he wants it, but he can never really have that. And you think, yeah, Kenzaki will be the one to seal him and it's what he would want, and it'll hurt Kenzaki, but he'll realize the necessity. Just like in the movie.
And then instead Kenzaki, who doesn't NEED any redemption, who always believed in people, who always just wanted to do the right thing takes his place, and in a way it's worse than dying. Death is just a moment, you know? Instead of ending his life, he willingly walks away from it, to shoulder a HUGE HUGE burden alone. And it's forever. He could have saved humanity by sealing Hajime, and Hajime wanted it, but instead he wants to save humanity AND save Hajime. It's like saying to him, you don't actually NEED redemption, I already know there's good in you, so here, what you thought at first you didn't want, didn't understand, and then realized you wanted but couldnt' ever really have, you can have it, because I'll be somewhere making sure the sky doesn't come crashing down on us all and you just go live the normal life you wanted and be happy finally. ;_______;
I mean... ultimately I assume that Hajime's happiness is... well, it's not dealt with but I kind of assume that Hajime won't age, which means after a few years of living with Amane and her mom they're gonna realize OH HEY. HOW COME YOU DON'T GROW OLDER, DUDE???? So either he'll have to leave before that happens or when that happens and start over again somewhere else (or go off alone himself), or... well, best case scenario, he can can explain things to Amane and she can understand and accept, and in THAT case he gets to watch her grow old and die while he remains the same.
But well, at least he's going to have that because of Kenzaki.
But yeah, back to the point, it's so heart-wrenching, because specially after seeing what happened to Amane in the movie you realize that Kenzaki might not have known how it would all play out, but he did in fact sacrifice himself so that as many people as possible could be happy with the outcome. So little girl doesn't have to grow up wondering why the person she loved most left despite his promise.
