Top 5, part the second

gekidasaI was going to stick more in this one, but this request got tl;dr, so I'm just going to post it now.
Top 5 things I like about Hyoutei:
1. My original reason for liking Hyoutei was... well. I like the baddies, the adversaies, and up until that point in PoT, Hyoutei is the only team that could really be considered as such. Fudomine had flashbacks about KITTENS; Yamabuki had Akutsu, but that was about it; and SeiRu had... Mizuki. Great epic enemy he is not. :D
Anyway, so in comes Hyoutei, and they're arrogant, cocky and bitchy. They think they're better than everyone else. They don't want to defeat Seigaku in order to move forward, they want to CRUSH Seigaku. They're snide and and mocking ("Can't you jump a little higher?") and ruthless and boy are they being set up for a fall. But I loved every bitchy little detail about them. XD
Since then there's been other Epic Adversaries (Rikkai) and other teams that fit the "villain" billing much better than Hyoutei (Higa and.. those foreign dudes from the Nagoya team). But Hyoutei were the first, and there's a lot to be said for that.
2. Hyoutei, in general, has characters I adore. I mean, I don't care very much about Jiroh and Kabaji (sorry), but the rest I like a lot. And Hyoutei has my two absolutely FAVORITE characters in PoT (Shishido and Keigo)... and then Piyo and Yuushi who are in what I call my "second tier", and Gakuto, who didn't start out being a huge fan of but who I just adore to pieces now, and Ohtori, who is not my favorite, but I do like him well enough, specially in relation to some of the others, and Taki, who amuses me no end.
3. Their dynamics. Hyoutei is not a sparkly rabu rabu team all about brotherhood and whatnot. Hyoutei is viciously competitive and at least at the beginning there is a very definite survival of fittest, kill or be killed aspect to the team (Shishido only being able to come back at the expense of having to defeat and get Taki off the team, HIyoshi's whole gekokujo thing, Gakuto and Yuushi's attitude towards everyone else). When you compare them to a team like Rokkaku, you sort of have to wonder if, barring certain exceptions, they're even friends, at the end of the day. Then you realize that for all that they bitch about each other as much as about anyone else, there are very very strong ties that bind them together. They have their pride and later they share the drive to prove themselves, to come back. And finally you realize that some of them are friends, and some of them are not, hell, some of them may not like each other, but at the end of the day, but they are a team, and they win or lose as a team and they respect each other as such. Nakama, I suppose, although a very tough love version, I would say.

No seriously. ShishiAto is my #1 PoT OTP. ToriHiyo is also one of my favorites, and OshiGaku, just like Gakuto himself, ended up sneaking up on me and stealing my heart.
Last, but CERTAINLY not least....
5. Atobe Keigo.
Okay, look. Hyoutei is more than just Atobe, and the captains are in most cases an important part of setting the tone for the team. But no other team in TeniPuri is defined by its buchou the way Hyoutei is defined by Atobe. If you love Atobe, you love Hyoutei, and if you hate Atobe... you probably hate Hyoutei too (unless you make an effort to look past him and focus on the other individuals, but even so I've noticed in those cases people say they like SPECIFIC Hyoutei guys but dislike Hyoutei as a team). He sets the tone, he rules over them, he defines them and they follow him because they believe in him.
Atobe IS Hyoutei. He is, as he very appropiately says, the king.
