Starting over

Since it's been so long since I put my Ryuki watching on hold, I figured it would be better to just start over from the beginning, so I did.

I'd forgotten just how awesomely DUMB and adorkable and hilarious Shinji is. ¦D

Also, the first time Ren henshins is really really awesome when you watch knowing who he is. :3

You really need to stop stalling and finish Ryuki so we can talk about stuff without me dancing around spoilers and not being able to make my points about other stuff when I compare it to Ryuki because I can't finish my thoughts, you ho.

I know I do. I hve no idea why I've been stalling, but I totally have, which is really weird since I love Ryuki. It's such a FUN ride.

tbh I would prefer if you finished Ryuki before Kuuga, if only so we can finish a lot of conversations we left open and hanging because they depend on ending or mide-season or movie spoilers.

Kuuga... it's gonna be there. It doesn't move or change much from what you've seen. How can I put it? Even though I do like it, quite a lot, it doesn't really inspire me lots of thoughts and theories like other series. It basically is what it is, there aren't hundreds of small layers to explore past what you see. So if you watch it first or last or somewhere inbetween, it doesn't really affect your fan experience much. Or idk, at least that's how I felt watching it.

Actually, that's kind of how I feel about Kuuga... I *like* it, but like you've noticed it doesn't inspire me to fangirl or to write longwinded tl;dr posts about it. And I'm a dozen episodes in and... hmm... it's very... formulaic, maybe? not on an episode to episode basis, but I can totally see it basically being new grongi joins the gageru (was that the name of the game?) - Godai gets his ass handed to him - people reflect on Godai's coolguyness - Godai figures out a new kick or accesses a new Kuuga form - Kuuga kicks Grongi ass - THUMBS UP... lather, rinse, repeat.

(Not that there's anything WRONG with that, like I said, I like it, and I like Godai a lot, he's refreshingly lackadaisical, but obviously in a totally different way from someone like Shinji (bless his heart), it's just not conducive to the sort of obsession I've developed with the others).

So I think part of why I've been stalled with advancing more with Kamen Rider in general was that in my head Kuuga was The Next One, and it doesn't so much work like that, and Den-O... I will watch, but, eeeeeh, you already know my issues with it, and I have to figure out a way to get around that so that I can enjoy it properly.

So it should be Ryuki. Which I already love a lot. I still think it's probably the FUNNEST ride... at least up to where I watched. \:D/

Remember how I said I consider Agito the real transition from Showa style to Heisei style? This is what I mean. Kuuga is so Showa in the style, the storytelling, the way the episodes are constructed and the characters are presented, that I hardly consider it a "Heisei Rider" (I mean, following Toei's notion of disregarding Showa and Heisei as actual historical time periods and just considering it style eras). You watch anything from the first to RX, this is KR; bad guys attack, RIDAAAH KIIICK, ride off into the sunset. It makes for some great entertainment, but definitely doesn't make your meta muses itch too much.

Honestly, I think you're stalling on Ryuki because you're building too high expectations of it that it will be the best series ever and thus should be left for the last. :D;; It is a cool series, just be careful not to hype it so much for yourself that you're disappointed it didn't live up to your expectations in the end. Just watch it and enjoy it as the next series in your list. :3

Actually, I don't think it will be the best ever. I expect it to be a lot of fun, but from what you have said I really don't expect it to match Agito or Blade as far as damn, this is all around amazing and awesome, or Faiz as far as being a really poignant story... but it might just rival Kabuto as far as damn, I really love some of these characters. It might be more about... I dunno, the whole "my favorite characters mostly seem to end up dead" and being absolutely certain this will be one of those cases. Maybe.

Which is stupid. Specially since I have to watch more to even SEE more of the character in question. :D


But it's not that I expect it to be my favorite.
