Did anyone actually think I was done?

Right, so I pretty much suck, and instead of watching more Kuuga, Hibiki or Boukenger, I decided that now would be a great time to... rewatch Kitaoka's introductory episodes, 7 and 8. orz
"To live just for one's desire seems kind of hollow."

It's interesting to go back and rewatch certain things knowing a character's ultimate fate. In this case, maybe it was obvious to other people, why Kitaoka got so upset at Shinji's words, but beyond the obvious, I thought that it was an interesting little moment that could point to several different things: did Shinji hit too close to home for comfort? Does Kitaoka just not like being questioned? Or is he, and this is what I thought, just upset that happy go lucky Shinji with his perfect health feels that he can just come in and judge him, question his motives, when he has no idea what it's like to know you're dying.
I still think it's in large part the last one, but going back now, after seeing Kitaoka's story play out in both the movie and series, I think it's also very much that Shinji was right, and Kitaoka, deep down under the arrogance and hedonism, probably felt, at that point, that his life was maybe not hollow, but half empty still. His journey was about realizing that his life was being cut short, but that it hadn't been hollow.
Also, I either didn't notice or forgot, but check out his little aqua speedos. ¦D

Date: 2009-10-28 07:29 am (UTC)Berkeley is pretty near by. I don't know any good coffeeshops in the area, but I know where a rad comic book store is.
I also know how to get to Japantown in SF, and that's all the hobby/otaku shops are : D
