Goro-chan, Kitaoka and the Rider battle

gekidasaSo, yeah, rewatched ep 27 tonight. :D;;
As always, it's interesting to watch again knowing how things ulimately play out.
In this specific case, what jumped out most to me was Goro-chan while Ren and Shinji were showing Takuya what being a Rider is like. I forget whether this was as transparently clear to me the first time, that Goro-chan reaches out to grab Shinji and Takuya's hand as they touch the Deck BECAUSE he has this overpowering urge to see what it's like when Riders fight, because it's a part of Kitaoka's life he can't know and doesn't really understand, and he wants to know, he wants to understand.
And then it's just a testament to how kind-hearted he is, and to how much he loves Kitaoka, that his reaction to seeing Kitaoka fight, to seeing how Asakura attacks him, is to start crying like that. Because now he knows a little of what it's like, now he can see what Kitaoka is putting himself through, and it hurts Goro-chan to see it because he loves Kitaoka so much.
Obviously that's not really a huge revelation to me at this point, how much he cares for Kitaoka, but what IS striking is to watch this scene play out when you know the choice Goro-chan makes for Kitaoka in the end. On the one hand, it drives home even more the point that what Goro-chan does in the last episode was just as inevitable and as fitting for the person he is as... well, as all the other characters' fates and actions in that last episode are. I say this, because when I first the situation with Goro-chan revealed in the last episode, my initial reaction was WHY, GORO-CHAN, THAT WASN'T NECESSARY. Except watching this... it was. It was the only thing Goro-chan could do, loving Kitaoka as much as he does, and having seen what Kitaoka put himself through, because he understood why, and I guess he felt it was the least he could do to honor him.
And there is also another side to it, and it's that he didn't make that choice lightly or blindly. He'd seen how terrible the Rider battle is, and he made his choice and did what he did, all because Kitaoka meant that much to him.
