Moar Tsukasa/Natsumikan, with a side of Yusuke \:D/
This is in the same continuity as the others I've written, and I guess it's a direct continuation of this one.
Tsukasa/Natsumi.
Spoilers for 27 again, and references something that happens in 29.
Yusuke woke up the morning after they'd brought Natsumi home from the hospital to find that Tsukasa's bed had not been slept in. It surprised him a little, because he'd figured that Tsukasa would have crept into their shared guest room at some point during the night. He shook his head ruefully as he climbed out of bed and made his way to open the door.
He hadn't really expected to open the door at the same time that Tsukasa snuck surreptitiously out of Natsumi's room, hair messed up and sticking every which way and wearing the same, now rumpled, clothes from the day before. Their eyes met, and Yusuke couldn't help raising his eyebrows at his friend.
"Don't," Tsukasa said, making a face as he glared at Yusuke.
"I didn't say anything," Yusuke replied, trying to bite back a grin.
"Good. Keep it that way."
Tsukasa turned to walk down the hall, but Yusuke grabbed his arm before he could go.
"You didn't tell her?"
"Tell her what?"
"Tsukasa."
"I thought you weren't going to say anything," Tsukasa muttered, tugging his arm out of Yusuke's grip and turning to walk away.
Yusuke glanced at the door to Natsumi's room as Tsukasa disappeared. She should really know, and if Tsukasa was going to refuse to tell her... he would just have to. But it would have to wait. He didn't think she'd appreciate a visit right then.
*
Tsukasa left on his motorcycle shortly after lunch, saying he had something to tell Minami Kotaro before they moved on to a new world; and so Yusuke found himself sitting with an unusually quiet Natsumi.
After a few minutes, he decided to just say it.
"So, Natsumi..."
She glanced up at him, and Yusuke thought he saw the hint of a blush on her cheeks before her eyes darted away.
"Nothing happened last night, Yusuke."
"...Eh?"
She laughed softly, the blush deepening. "Yes, he slept in my room. But nothing... I mean, we didn't..."
Yusuke's eyes widened as he shook his head. "Natsumi-chan, that's none of my business! It's not what I was going to say!"
"...Oh," she smiled at him, her eyes sparkling. "Never mind then."
He laughed and grinned back at her "Not that I have a problem with it, as long as he's nice to you."
"Tsukasa-kun, nice? Be serious now, Yusuke," her smile widened as she dropped her chin to rest on the palm of her hand.
"Well... niceness is a relative term when it comes to Tsukasa," he conceded.
"He really does mean well, and he cares about you very much, Natsumi-chan," he said after a moment, his voice taking on a more serious tone.
"I know that, Yusuke," she whispered.
"He was really worried about you. He felt terrible. He thought it was his fault, that it was true that he'd destroy everything, starting with anyone close to him."
He watched as Natsumi's smile faded and her eyes widened. A pained expression crossed her features as she shook her head.
"I don't believe that. That's not who he is," she said.
"I don't believe that either," he replied firmily as their eyes met.
"There's something you need to know, Natsumi-chan," he said after a moment. He waited, and her expression changed slightly, more curious than worried now. "You weren't going to get better. Apollo Geist stole your life to extend his, it's what he does."
"With that thing he had?" she asked.
"Yeah. There was nothing the doctors could have done. In fact you..." he trailed off, remembering Tsukasa's words the day before.
I am not going to tell Natsumi that she should be dead.
Tsukasa was right. He couldn't bring himself to tell her she had died.
"I was dying. I would have died," she said, her voice strong. "I guessed that already, Yusuke, by the way the doctors acted when they came in. He saved my life somehow, didn't he?"
Yusuke nodded, "He went after Apollo Geist and took the Perfecter from him," he supressed a frown as he remembered Daiki's intervention. It bothered him that he wasn't sure yet what to think about that, but it wasn't the point now anyway.
"So Tsukasa-kun used it to give me my life back?"
"No, Natsumi-chan. He used it on himself," he looked her directly in the eyes, watching as she grasped the full meaning of his words. "He used it to share his life with you."
They sat in silence for a few moments, until finally Yusuke laughed.
"He doesn't want you to know. He'll probably be pissed off at me when he finds out I told you."
"That's because he's an idiot," she replied immediately, in a tender tone that belied her words.

Date: 2009-08-20 10:29 pm (UTC)I imagine that Yuusuke would try to set up boundries ("You sleep in Tsukasa's old bed there, and stay on that side of the room--" "Don't wanna. I don't like the idea of sleeping on anything Tsukasa touched." ) but in the morning, Yuusuke would wake up and discover that Troll-chan had cheerfully climbed into his bed, and would be impossible to dislodge, as he would be clinging to him like a barnacle.

Date: 2009-08-20 10:37 pm (UTC)Originally I'd thought that Tsukasa doesn't ALWAYS spend the night in Natsumi's room (she can't let him get the idea that it's an acquired right!), and he'd come back to find Daiki had commandeered his and he'd be like "Get out" and Daiki would be "Yada!" and Tsukasa would be like "That's my bed, you miserable thief" and Daiki would be like "Well, I'm not moving. Maybe you wanna sleep with me?" and Tsukasa would be like "...." and stalk out and either go beg Natsumi to let him in or just sleep on a couch depending on whether she's annoyed with him or just wanted her space that night"
But I don't know which I like better now. :/

Date: 2009-08-20 11:00 pm (UTC)And in any case, when Tsukasa had lodging issues, Trollie would ask Yusuke, isn't Tsukasa doing Natsu Melon? and Yusuke would smack him.
And since Daiki makes breakfast he'd have melons for Tsukasa and be all "I bet you'd feel better if just took a bite of melon :D" and at that point Tsukasa might decide that's enough and lunge across the table at him and Natsumi, who no one has informed what that melons refer to, would be all "TSUKASA-KUN! Kaito-san is being NICE to you"

Date: 2009-08-20 11:12 pm (UTC)BarnacleDaiki loves clinging to Yuusuke. I would imagine that he'd go into barnacle mode whenever he felt especially pouty. "No fair that Tsukasa's getting more action then me. Yuuuusuuuukeeeee."
"...errrrno."

Bwahahahargh. XD

Date: 2009-08-20 11:15 pm (UTC)Tsukasa WOULD kick his ass for that one. Yusuke might too. Hell, NATSUMI probably would do it herself.
Poor Yusuke is DOOMED, isn't he?

Date: 2009-08-20 11:21 pm (UTC)Yuusuke IS doomed, poor guy! And Daiki would gleefully drag him down to his doom if given the chance. XDD I think that if Kuuga!Yuusuke and Decade!Yuusuke ever crossed paths, Decade!Yuusuke would immediately go "Why does this happen to me, Other Me?"...while Daiki is gleefully grinning away, arm casually draped around Decade!Yuusuke's shoulders.
XDDDD

Seriously, wtf is he? Doctor Shinigami, who retired and just decided to enjoy life? Someone who was related to Doctor Shinigami? Did he get possessed by him? Eeeeegh.

Date: 2009-08-20 11:43 pm (UTC)Did you read the reviews and spoilers of the movie? I expected to clear THAT up... actually I assumed he was just Dr Shinigami and it'd be revealed then and it'd fit in continuty and after Natsumi would be alone except for her boys, and then the last bit in the movie made me just WHUT?
I mean I assume it's an AU ending? or not ending but something... like the Agito TV special, which is not an ending and COULD fit in the series at one point, but not by the time the series was over because it went another way?
Actually that, because I was just thinking, some of the stuff that Tsukasa does... I could see Tsukasa from even the middle of the series doing that stuff, but not after the last half dozen eps. He's changed too much for it.

Date: 2009-08-21 12:44 am (UTC)I don't know if it's an AU ending. It might be--but some crazy part of me believes that it might be from BEFORE the events of Decade, and that everyone got "reset to zero" by the canon riders, since duckface Kiva makes a mention of that in the first episode ("In the past, you lost them all"). Also, in Amazon no Sekai, Tsukasa seems to get very worked up when the creepykid mentions that he didn't tell his sister that he had left DaiShocker--which is a nice tie-in to the movie's plotline.
I agree with you about how much he's changed from the middle of the series to the end of the series. That makes the movie extremely hard to place in terms of canon. THANKS DECADE.

Date: 2009-08-21 01:20 am (UTC)Hmmm..... that's an interesting idea. I'm pretty sure, though, that when duckface tells Tsukasa he lost them all he meant the cards, though.
In Amazon no Sekai, I thought he as more suspicious than distraught about the sister thing. Part of not believing eyeshadow boy. However, I found REALLY interesting that no one batted an eye at all the DCD eagle crests. I mean, I suppose they just might not have made the connection that "DCD" = Decade, so....
One thing that makes me think definitely AU is the castle of eeeeeeeevil. In the movie it rises after the tournament, and we see it rising at the end of episode 29, so that's different events for the same thing.
Personality and character development-wise... I could see middle-of-series Tsukasa turning to DaiShocker again once he regains his memories, yeah, because he has yet to admit to himself how important Natsumi and Yusuke are to him, and then it playing out like in the movie (he's double-crossed and goes to Natsumi, who almost lets him in but doesn't, and eventually he comes to the realization that he's been changed by the journey and so on and turns "good" again.
But Tsukasa as he is now... I don't care how big a shock getting his memory back would be, short of some kind of mind control or SOMETHING, I just can't see him go to DaiShocker and turn his back on his friends and on the path he's followed. I mean, like I said, it starts in Shinkenger world, and the realizations he started to have, and then he had a bratty spell at the beginning of RX world, but the Tsukasa that leaves that world is so much more mature and has come to terms with so much that he refused to admit that I just don't think there's going back. And part of it is Kotaru's influence, because like I said after the ep, I think Kotaro is the mentor that taught him to be a man and a hero. And obviously, what happened to Natsumi changed him really deeply too, because until that moment he'd seen people get hurt, because of him even, and Natsumi and Yusuke had goten kidnappened, but it hadn't been too big a deal, but at that moment, for the first time, he realized that someone he loved could die, and that very obviously gutted him. And then he goes and does everything he can to save her, and for a moment he tasted what it would feel like to have his best effort not to be enough to save someone he loved, and I think that's key because I think that it's THAT moment, it's having felt that despair, that makes him into a man that would consciously willingly give it all to save her. Because I think it was also pretty obvious that if what he'd given up to the Perfecter hadn't been enough he would have given up every last drop. Anyway, I just don't think that after doing that for Natsumi, after going so far, he could turn his back on her. He already crossed a point of no return where she's concerned.
Man. I really want the 4 them to be together after it's over. Stupid show. ;____;
