Spent the weekend reading A Game of Thrones… no, I hadn’t before now, and yes, I decided to do it because I want to know the story before the HBO series rolls around in April. Like it a lot, actually. I’ve always liked fantasy that was more intrigue and politics than sorcery.

My favorite characters are Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow. That’s probably extremely predictable of me. :D

And so, Operation OOO Catch-Up is on stand-by.

I'd love it if you left comments over there, although it's fine here too! :D

I'm a huge fan of ASOFIAF. One of the best things is that characters who you hate grow and change (or at least we know more about them). Even the villains are multi-layered. Martin is a master at characterization.

I like Tyrion and Jon and also Arya a heck of a lot. Have you finished the first book yet?

I like Arya a lot too... just not as much as Tyrion and Jon. :D

I'm not done yet, I'm about halfway through. Ned just told Arya and Samsa that he was sending them back.

Arya only gets better. You won't believe what all can and will happen. I mean it. I even have a soft spot for the Hound.

I have great hope for the show because Martin is deeply involved with it, and he has loads of experience with the small screen as well as writing. I'm a bit disappointed because of some of the hair colors, but you can't really get that IRL. And Sean Bean? Awesome.

Ahaha, we share the same favorites (though I also like Arya quite a bit). I'm cautiously excited about the tv series; it'll disappoint in some ways, if only because the fanbase is obsessive, but I think it will be very good in its own right. I hope. This series is so far from black and white it's ridiculous (and awesome).

I like Arya a lot too. I despise Samsa though (the shit just hit the fan in the book, and just got past her POV chapter after it happens) because that I find that to be a really tiresome exasperating female character trope. :D

ETA: ...That makes it sound like I don't like the book as much as I do. I do! I'm just really annoyed at Samsa atm. :D

Sansa is still one of my least favorite characters, but at least her story gets a little more interesting later on. The people around her are the best parts of her chapters. There are a couple somewhat stereotypical female characters later on, but for the most part GRRM does a very good job with women (er, at least the POV ones). Just about every other female character I look forward to reading. Do you have the rest of the books?

Nope. GOt a Kindle, though, so getting books is not a problem. :D
