Post-canon #sangcheng is two lonely, broken people, worn out from the anger and hurt, looking at the other and seeing their own pain reflected back.

And maybe these two broken people together can actually hope to heal each other. 💜💚

It's so interesting to me now, thinking about it in terms of post-canon, that at the beginning of "the present" (before Wei Wuxian came back), the two of them might have felt like they were the only ones left. (Like, each of them alone, not even together, but if they could bond over it that would be even better!) And then by the end of canon, everything that had happened probably made it feel like... it mattered more? That they were there, all those years ago, and that they still remember. So much of their cultivating generation was just completely lost, all that history and experience and skill, and I feel like before all the revelations about the Jins, the cultivating world had just tried to patch the gaps as best they could and go on, but then after that patch was torn off (and arguably they got back some of that history and experience), now it matters more that there are people from that generation that can be part of representing it, making it into something that takes its place in history and helps guide the next one.

So I hope they can find each other in a purpose like that, I guess is my point :) It seems like they both benefit from something bigger than themselves to work toward and for, and if they could do it alongside someone with shared history, then wow, what an opportunity for companionship (after they'd resigned themselves to loneliness out of circumstance and for the cause) that would be.

Honestly part of why I ship them so hard is that even though their personalities and responses to loss are so different... they both lost SO much, they both felt so betrayed, they were both so angry and wanted revenge so much it consumed them. They're very similar in that sense, to the point where I think they can at least understand each other in a way no one else can.

One thing I think about a lot is at the end, when WWX tells JC the thing about let's just let the past be the past, I can't help thinking, that's kind of easier for WWX, who has a new life, he has a do over, so to speak. JC... the only thing he has is the same life he's always had, the years of loneliness and loss. Of course it's harder for him to not be stuck in the past (ESPECIALLY with the golden core reveal). I think he would probably be resentful about even that sentiment, you know? Like "easy for you to say, with your new husband".

And NHS... I always think about Inigo at the end of The Princess Bride "I have been in the revenge business so long, now that it's over, I don't know what to do with the rest of my life".

I actually don't really care if they work for something bigger than themselves. Just them is enough. XD
