So, starting with the Den-O (re)watch.

Personally, I didn’t realize before the link between Den-O and Ryuki, but now I do, and Ryuki being my favorite it’s inevitable that I’m going to be drawing conclusions, the first of which involves Ryotaro himself and the ways in which he is like Shinji, and the ways in which he’s not. Obviously, they’re both “Fail!Riders”, but their attitudes are very different. Ryotaro is resigned to be bullied, both by other people and by the universe itself, really, while Shinji kind of… just creates his own shenanigans, but meets everything with what can only be called feistiness. But really, even in this first episode, the real similarity between them is their drive to do the right thing. Shinji gets involved in things that are not his business out of his sense of justice, and Ryotaro, even when kicked to the curve, is always all about doing the right thing… to the point protecting those that have wronged him. And there’s kind of an innocence, I think, in that, in their overpowering goodness.

Thoughts on ep 1, and potentially thinking too hard about Momotaros »

Shamelessly just stealing Dimmie's term for Mako in the title, because there's no better description. ¦D

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

I already thought Mako was awesome. But DAMN, after this episode, and particularly the scene that the first two caps come from, all I can say is, Mako is right up there with.. well, Irina Derevko, in my list of favorite female characters.

I mean, that scene, in and of itself, action-wise, it was great, but more than that, it's what it says about her, about her strength, about her resolve. About how you see so clearly that it was a little girl's pain that forged her and made her who she is, and that she really does mean it when she says she has no regrets, because that pain made her strong. And really, it explains her so perfectly, what she didn't have growing up and what she dreams of having. And I think maybe the best thing about her is that she's strong but she's not hardened by that strenght, if that makes sense.

Just, seriously, I don't understand how there's people that don't like this character.

Watched through ep 32 of Shinkenger!

Ten togo before I'm caught up~
gekidasa: (Decade's Merry Band of Outcasts)
So I watched the crossover eps of Shinkenger and Decade these past two days... that is to say, I rewatched the Decade ones, and watched the Shinkenger ones for the first time.

The Decade ones mostly made me realize how much I miss Daiki, Yusuke, Natsumi and Tsukasa. And they made me remember just HOW much of an amusing dick Tsukasa is. Love the guy to bits. And I can finally appreciate that he was pretty much the worst kuroko in the history of EVER. XD

And Daiki! Trolling everyone! And the "Yada!", which was the moment that I started shipping him and Yusuke. This was also when I threw in the towel and realized I just can't ship Tsukasa with anyone that is not Natsumi.

On the Shinkenger side... I loved Chiaki's daddy! And really, it all explains so much about why Chiaki is how he is, and it was just all so sweet. And I love Chiaki and Mako's friendship. It's so adorable that he's adopted her as his older sister, and that she actually sighs and caves when the little brat wants to blow off the search to go chill because it's so hot. XD

And then, at the end... Mako and Takeru is so very obvious. It's like they're parents watching over their kids. XD;

☆ First of all, I realized while watching him get all bloody while training off by himself, that I already kinda love Takeru to distraction. Either he's extremely easy to fangirl... or I'm extremely easy. :3

☆ He's so ridiculously cute, hiding his smile when Jii is talking about when he would take him to the amusement park as a kid... and then that the haunted house made him wet his pants. D'aww.

☆ It's extremely obvious that Mako already has Takeru totally figured out. On episode 5. Girlfriend is perceptive! And considering that Takeru clearly does not want to be figured out (or does he??), it makes for a really interesting dynamic between them.

☆ Chiaki is just utterly adorable around Kotoha. I still don't really care about her, but his reactions to her are precious.

shinkenger,mako,takeru shinkenger,chiaki,kotoha

Those last two bring me to another point... and I realize that shipping in Shinkenger is kind of a hotbutton right now (haha) but ah well. And that is... Shinkenger may not have blatant/consumated ships, but it certainly has hints and subtext, doesn't it? Or in the case of Chiaki and Kotoha, it has really large anvils. Anyway, like I said, I think Chiaki is adorable around her, but I find the way that Mako and Takeru have started to dance around each other much more intriguing and subtle. Wonderfully so, in fact. <|:D
gekidasa: (Good!)
I watched the first ep ages ago, then promptly got distracted by other things. This past week I watched a bit more, because frankly I feel intrigued and left out... specially lately. *cough* 8D

Anyway, I've only watched the first four eps, but so far I can say:

☆ Takeru is (to me) by far the most interesting character. Apparently some people think he's a mean poopiehead, but I disagree, I think he behaves how he does because, firstly, he's really not used to being able to relate to people on a personal level, because by necessity he's *~tono-sama~*, and also because... it's a war, and he's a warrior, and that's just how it has to be. But at any rate, I like him a lot.

☆ Chiaki is an adorable little brat. :D

☆ Kotoha is... just there. She's cute and harmless and unobjectionable, and the sort of character that is utterly forgettable to me. :D;;

☆ Ryunosuke is totally ridiculous. But I love that, because it's all about making fun of and abusing Aiba, and I can totally get behind that. I can also TOTALLY get behind anyone smacking him or shooting him down, and so it should be no surprise that's just one factor in why...

MAKO IS KIND OF TOTALLY AWESOME \:D/

I mean, come ON. First the totally deadpan way she tells Ryunosuke he's disgusting when he drops pants to change (I too would totally tell Aiba he's disgusting if he did that in front of me!), then the way she blithely shoots him down after he got the wrong impression of why she was nice to him. And then the lulzy irony of wanting to be a "normal bride" and... it turns out that she sucks at "bride things". And I was just dying when she attacked the food she was cooking with a sword. 8D
