Shinkenger:

1. The character I first fell in love with: Takeru, actually, pretty much in the first episode.
2. The character I never expected to love like as much as I do now: ...Ryunosuke. I don't LOVE him, by any stretch, but the fact that Aiba was in Shinkenger actually kept from watching for months, so to fidn out that that I actually enjoyed the character was a surprise.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Kaoru? Although I don't HATE her, I just dont' care very much. Although she did get to be cooler towards the end.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: ...Mako? I don't know about EVERYONE, but what with all the talk around LJ about how Mako is a bad example that single-handedly sets women's lib back by about 50 years just by existing, it seems liek she gets a fair bit of hate. And I personally think there's nothing wrong witha girl wanting a family and liking to cook, and think she's an amazing, compelling character. One of my favorite female characters ever, in fact.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: no one comes to mind
6. The character I would shag anytime: Juuzo
7. The character I'd want to be like: Hm. I don't know that I want to be like anyone. There's certainly aspects of several characters that I find really admirable, but as a whole I wouldn't want to be them.
8. The character I'd slap: Kotoha. Please get yourself a personality.

10. A pairing that I despise: I don't DESPISE any pairings like I despite certain pairings in other fandoms *cough*Ren/Shinji!*cough*see my answers below*cough*, but... I find Takeru/Ryu kinda... very very iffy. And then a pairing like Ryu/Mako I honestly just find kind of silly.
11. Favorite character: Oh shit. Uuuuh. Genta, Takeru, Mako and Juuzo.
12. My five favorite characters: Genta, Takeru, Mako, Juuzo and Chiaki

Agito:

1. The character I first fell in love with: Hikawa. And he remains my favorite.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Shoichi. Not because I didn't like him, simply becauseI didn't expect to love him.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Uh. I have no clue who Everyone Else dislikes in Agito.

9. A pairing that I love: I don't really focus on shipping in Agito, but this is an intersting question, because throug the series I THOUGHT I shipped Hikawa/Ozawa, and then I realized... I really don't, their relationship isn't about htat. And then I was kind of -_- at the whole Ozawa/Hojo thing at the end, and then they had the cameo in Ryuki Episode Final and I realized... I don't SHIP it actively, but it's kind of awesome. Also I really liked Ryo's relationship with his biker girlfriend at the end, it was so cute.
10. A pairing that I despise: Well, I really hate the idea of any configuration of Hikawa, Shoichi and Ryo being shipped with each other. And I really really hope people don't ship Shoichi and Mana-chan, because that makes my soul cry inside.
11. Favorite character: TADA NO NINGEN DA!

1. The character I first fell in love with: Daisuke? Bear in mind that I first watched a couple of eps simply for Kazuki, back when they aired.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Yaguruma, Kagami and Kageyama are all characters I didn't expect to love. Maybe Kageyama in that he was the only one I kinda hated for a bit.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Tendo. :D
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Uh. No one? I have no idea?
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: No one, but I will say that I USED to be more amused by Tendo than I am now.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Wagatomo KaGAAAmi AND Yaguruma. Kagami probably smells better, though. :3

Yes, this. Aiba didn't keep me from Shinkenger, but Ryuunosuke was definitely one of the factors that had me leery about jumping back in and finishing up. Instead I found myself liking him, and to this day I can't really figure out when that happened XD

Mako ♥ This whole anti-Mako feeling I'm seeing in places really makes me nervous about checking episode recaps by anyone whose feelings about Mako I'm not sure about already, because so many people min-interpret Mako and that causes me to RAGE. She has a right to want to do something besides be a career woman or be a samurai for the rest of her life.v Hell, at the moment it doesn't even matter, because right now she is a Shinkenger, and she's not letting her desire to get married and have children in the future get in the way of the fact that she's a little busy kicking all sorts of ass. Any time anyone hates on Mako I smell violent feminist tendencies and just--you are missing the point of her people D< Besides that, it's not like she didn't come from a normal family, so clearly her own mother--who was clearly a badass, she hurt herself so much even when she had a five year old waiting at home--wanted to be a normal wife and mother and managed to be a samurai, too! /useless rage at fandom

I think that people that hate on Mako because of feminism, I think they're the kind of "feminists" that don't really understand feminism. Feminism is SUPPOSED about women being able to choose, and choosing to be a wife and mother is just as valid as choosing otherwise. And then there's the people that I think simply watched a different series than I did, because how else can you explain someone calling Mako and opportunistic gold-digger? :D;;

I kinda started out with the Ozawa/Hikawa thing because at that point I was much more a shipper than I am now... meaning that I was more tunnel-visiony about it all. Having spent years in PoT fandom, which is focused on shipping to RIDICULOUS extents, I still had that impulse to, you know, find a ship to latch on to. But it was in large part Kamen Rider that reminded me that you don't HAVE to have a ship for everything under the sun.

That's a large part of it, in the sense that it's basically Tendo/Kagami or nothing, as far as fandom goes.

I think Tendo and Kagami's friendship, as it evolves in the series, is actually quite interesting and cool (even though I don't like Tendo very much), but I definitely agree that fanon!Tendo/Kagami is extremely unhealthy. In fact, the reason it pisses me off so much is that it seems to ME that it's always written in a way that is frankly insulting to Kagami, making him out to be a lovestruck doormat, and as someone that utterly loves this character, I find that unforgivable. Because that's not Kagami.

The other ships of this type that I despise? Kenzaki/Hajime, Ren/Shinji, and Tsukasa/Yusuke.

Yeah, if it's not happening in the story it just seems so forced. It's even gotten to the point where I can't play a dialogue-based RPG and ship the playable character because the relationship doesn't work :/ though maybe I'm just picky? XD

UGH THE DOUBLE CRAP ;A; I can't think back on that time without shuddering. I like the Shotaro and Philip relationship as it is in the show, but they're not 'OMG TOTALLY MARRIED' or anything, people need to let them be aibou because their partnership is personally not any less profound. I dunno, I have weird thoughts about Double since I don't feel the need to salivate over every spoiler / watch every episode five times (at the moment, anyway). And as for Goseiger, well, I'm just hoping it goes well. I don't think it's going to be the best sentai of all time but I am hoping to enjoy it, which is all I can really ask out of it. There are certain parts of my f-list that are all aflutter over it, though, and sometimes I wish they would shut up :/ It's been one episode, people, just because you like the actors doesn't mean it's automatically awesome.

Neither do I! I tend to think of him in terms of my man Godai, since I love original flavor Kuuga so much, but Yuusuke stands on his own as a strong character with strong beliefs about the goodness of people. He's not naive, he's not stupid, and he's not some kind of fluttery girl. He's a genuinely nice guy with great friends and a tendency to believe in people. That's not a sin against Rider-hood (if it were some of our modern Riders would be in hell somewhere) and it's not a flaw. Just because Daiki and Tsukasa have tendencies to be asses where Yuusuke would rather ':Db' and be nice does not make Yuusuke weaker in some way.

I always tended to be sort of a canon whore, to be honest. Now, this doesn't mean that I can't like a pairing unless it's canon... it means that I can't like a pairing that necessitates that you ignore or change canon to make it work (and by that I mean both glossing over/ignoring a canonical love interest, or the need to warp a character to make the ship work, like in the examples we've been talking about).

Yeah, and I really like that about it. Also, unlikeother series where you can insert it yourself because the realtionships lend themselves to it, I think that a lot of the relationships in Agito are just very clearly set up in a way that makes it very clear that it's not about that.

Years ago, yeah, that might have been me. But now? Not really, "getting in the way of an OTP" really isn't a reason for me to hate on a pairing. What I said about "relative popularity" in regards to Kabuto has nothing to do with what I personally do or don't ship (I said I like Misaki/Kagami, but I am not actually invested in it, I could like Kagami with her, Renge and even Hiyori, as it's set up in God Speed Love, and I don't really care one way or another about Tendo), it has to do with me being annoyed by how pretty much 99% of everyone that likes Kabuto at all thinks it's pretty much a given that one will ship this and that "it's so CANON!!!one11", and then they all turn around and give Kagami the same shitty treatment.

In other words, I get to despise a pairing because of what it does to the characters, not because of what I do or don't ship. And even when I don't personally like what someone ships... you know, as long as you're respectful about it, to each their own. I may not LIKE slashing bros-for-life, but I respect the fact that hardcore slashers WILL go for that, it's just irritating when they assume everyone else does too.

And thanks for elaborating because now I understand even more, and yeah we're different in terms of the OTP rules all thing, but I totally get why you don't like the pairing for the reasons you do. It's how I feel about Otoya and Yuri in Kiva actually...it's not just because it destroyed my own OTP but it also completely, in my opinion at least, ruins the character of Yuri and why I love her so much. And I understand why a lot of people will slash or pair something, and that's completely thier preference, but I don't see why it's automatically assumed by some people that everyone ships it. Where would be the fun in shipping anyway if different people didn't like different things, right?

I've seen about as much Kotoha-bashing as Mako-bashing. A lot of people hate her just for being shy, because apparently a "real woman" is loud and forceful :/ I've also seen some pretty crude stuff about the lengths she might go to get Takeru's attention, which IMO is uncalled for.

It's because right after she turned down Ryuunosuke, she starts going for Takeru and he is wealthy. I don't really like her but it doesn't make a lot of sense. The episode where Takeru poses as Kotoha's servant gives a pretty clear message that marrying for money isn't a good thing to do.

Hmmm... I don't hate Kotoha by any means, I just... really don't care because find her to sadly lacking in personality, so I find it hard to care one way or another. That is why she is on the list. CHiaki is adorable around her, though.

I know WHY people think that, I just happen to think it's a ridiculous and willful misinterpretation of what actually happened. And much as I adore Mako/Takeru, at no point in the series is she actually "going for Takeru". Part of why I love the pairing is that it's about people learning to know and appreciate each other gradually. In my opinion, neither of them chased or went for the other, they are simply on the way to falling in love without quite realizing what is happening.

Magiranger had a character that was basically a combination of Mako and Kotoha (does the housewife thing, always worries about people, very quiet, not much personality) and no one seems to hate her. Wonder why?

I meant "going for Takeru" as in that was the point where the show starts giving them a lot of scenes together. But yeah, she's no Anna Nicole Smith.
